Danish designer Steen Ipsen lives and works in Naestved, Denmark. In the eighties, he studied at the Copenhagen School of Design, and then the Kolding School of Design. He has been teaching the discipline himself, in Denmark, since 1993.
The work presented here is composed of spheres, obsessively assembled through an accumulation that evokes atomic structures. This game of construction is accentuated by the yellow cord that intensifies the articulation and the tensions between the spherical volumes.
The notion of hand craftsmanship remains central in the artist’s work. Each piece is enameled, re-enameled and fired several times in order to obtain a perfectly smooth, monochrome surface. The shiny surface captures the gaze of the spectator like a mirror.
