Here, Claude poetically portrays a cabbage on two legs, reminiscent of Meret Oppenheim’s 1939 Table aux pieds d’oiseaux. Keen on artefacts and interested in peculiar things, Claude exhibited her first Choupatte at Jeanine Restany’s Galerie J in 1964. This piece foreshadowed what was to become the common thread running through her work: assemblage and hybridisation. Produced in several dimensions, the museum’s Moyen Choupatte dates from 2019.
