A site designed to be accessible to the widest number of visitors

Madparis.fr, the site of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs conforms to the standards defined by the W3C-WAI. Thanks to SPIP technology which disassociates the background (content coded in HTML, universally accessible) from the foreground (coded in CSS, cascading style sheets), this site has been designed to be accessible to the widest number of visitors. Documents taken out of CSS remain coherent: title, content, menus, and images.

Site Structure and Information

The site is organised in sections and sub-sections containing articles. The menus on the left of the screen reflect how the information is structured by showing the titles of the sections, sub-sections, and articles. The pages are structured with appropriately ordered titles h1…h6.

Navigation

Users can navigate the site with their keyboard by pressing [Tab] until the cursor falls on the desired link, then pressing [Enter]. “Breadcrumbs” are situated at the top of each page to facilitate navigation and allow users to know where they are and where they have come from in every section. A link toward a map of the site is accessible at the bottom of every page.

Navigator Compatibility

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs site is compatible with all current navigators with the exception of version 6 and earlier of Internet Explorer. To update your navigator for free, click on its name in the following list: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Opera.

Character Size

The user can easily modify the size of characters displayed on the site:
• In Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Chrome: press [Ctrl] + [+] to enlarge text and [Ctrl] + [-] to reduce text size
• In other navigators: use [Ctrl] + [keypad or mouse]

Images and Tables

When images are not described in the text that they are illustrating, a textual equivalent can be found by pressing the alt key. For better quality and html compatibility, the site does not use tables for its presentation.

Language

Text is by default in French. Changes of language are signalled using the attribute xml:lang. The principal language of every page is specified in the html attributes xml:lang and lang.

Printing

All pages are printable (press the printer icon on the page or File > Print or [CTRL] + [P] on a PC.) The pages have been optimised for print: summaries, and all navigational elements have been removed.
