Upholstered in morocco. Curved back with an oval medallion topped with a garland of flowers and musical instruments; spiral-pattern legs. This chair is branded with the mark of the furniture store (“garde-meuble”) of the Comte d’Artois, brother of King Louis XVI. It was made for his apartments at the Château de Versailles in 1775. Comte Moïse de Camondo was unaware of the armchair’s princely provenance when he bought it at the Doucet sale in 1912.
