Following the commercial success of the first TGV high speed trains, the SNCF launched in 1976 the programme for the TGV2N, renamed TGV Duplex when services began in 1996. Responding to a need for greater capacity, the Duplex is the project of which Roger Tallon is the most proud. The seats are made in a material that is much less voluminous than that of a seat for the TGV Atlantique. The textile covering, from floor to ceiling, matching that of the seats, offers better sound proofing and increased visual enjoyment.
