Alexandre-François Desportes was a highly successful still life painter whose works depicted the most famous silverware pieces created by his contemporaries; many of his paintings also featured oriental porcelain and vases of flowers, presented on buffets. In 1784, the Sèvres factory purchased the artist’s workshop collection from his nephew.
