Ettore Sottsass designed his first collection of glass for Memphis in 1982, collaborating with the Toso Vetri d’Arte factory. His ideas are based on a play of simple geometric shapes assembled with bright pure colour, exploiting the transparency of the glass and breaking away from the traditional skills of glass makers of Murano by using cold bonding in an unusual way.
