The sculpture of the wood is treated as architecture: the legs are fluted spirally like columns and the verticals supporting the back resemble pilasters with Ionic capitals. The finesse of their execution are an example of the mastery of Georges Jacob, the great chair maker during Louis XVI’s reign.
